Freight train derails in northern India, disrupts route
Early this morning, a freight train carrying oil derailed on a railway section in northern India’s Bihar, causing major disruptions to train services on the Cutihar-Ajmanagar route.
The incident took place at the Ajmanagar-Kumedpur railway section near railway gate number NC 82 in Katihar district on August 9.
Visuals showed a train with several of its bogies off the tracks. The derailed bogies are positioned awkwardly, partially elevated, and tilted from the railway tracks. Emergency response teams, railway staff, and technical experts are seen examining the scene, inspecting the damaged sections, and coordinating the recovery efforts.
At approximately 10:45 AM today, a freight train en route from Siliguri to Cutihar derailed on the Ajmanagar-Kumedpur rail line. The incident occurred near railway gate number NC 82, where five of the train’s oil-laden tankers went off the tracks. Fortunately, no significant damage or injuries have been reported.
The derailment has severely affected train operations on the Cutihar-Ajmanagar route. In response to the incident, train services have been diverted to alternate routes or halted at different junctions, leading to increased inconvenience for passengers. Rescue teams and technical experts from the Katihar rail division have arrived at the scene, but restoring the train to the tracks is expected to take several hours.
Local residents quickly arrived at the site and captured the incident on video, which has since gone viral on social media. The authorities are working to manage the situation and minimize disruption to train services.
