In a startling incident that underscores the pressing infrastructure challenges facing western India’s Maharashtra, a slab from a flyover in Andheri fell onto a moving car.

 

The incident occurred near the Gundavali Metro Station on the Western Express Highway, Mumbai city on July 4.

Visuals showed the slab fell onto the bonnet of the car, causing substantial damage to its front section.

 

According to reports, fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident has raised significant concerns about the structural integrity of the city’s flyovers.

 

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the slab fell onto the bonnet of the car, causing substantial damage to its front section. Fire brigade personnel, police, and staff from the local ward office responded swiftly to manage the situation and clear the debris. Authorities acted quickly to ensure that the area was secured and that traffic disruptions were minimised.

This incident has highlighted the urgent need for regular and thorough inspections of infrastructure across the city. The Western Express Highway is one of Mumbai’s most vital arteries, and such incidents could have severe implications if they recur. The BMC has assured that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the slab’s collapse and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
