Floodwaters inundate police station in southern India as heavy rains lash

Continuous overnight rains in southern India’s Telangana have caused severe flooding, with rainwater inundating the area. Officers were forced to use buckets in an attempt to clear the water, as efforts to manage the flooding continued amidst ongoing downpours.

The incident took place at Chaitanyapuri Police Station in Hyderabad on August 20.

Visuals showed after heavy rainfall, severe waterlogging occurred outside the police station, leading to water seeping inside. The scene was chaotic as police officers and locals worked together, filling buckets with water from inside the station and tossing it out in a desperate attempt to prevent the flooding from worsening. The water level inside the station rose steadily, creating an almost surreal sight of officers in uniform, wading through water, and using makeshift tools to try and protect their workspace. The situation highlighted the relentless impact of the rain and the determination of those involved to safeguard their station.

Heavy rains that began overnight have wreaked havoc across Hyderabad, with the Chaitanyapuri Police Station among the worst affected. Torrential downpours led to flood waters entering the station, disrupting daily operations and causing significant challenges for the police officers on duty.

The floodwater poured into the police station early in the morning, catching officers off guard. With the drainage systems overwhelmed, the officers resorted to manually removing the water using buckets. Despite their best efforts, the rainwater continued to seep into the station, hampering routine police work.

The situation in Chaitanyapuri reflects a broader issue across Hyderabad, where many areas are experiencing severe waterlogging and flooding due to the continuous heavy rainfall. Local authorities are on high alert, and efforts are underway to manage the situation and provide assistance to affected areas.

Residents in low-lying regions have been advised to remain indoors and avoid venturing out unless necessary. The municipal corporation has also issued warnings about potential landslides in hilly areas around the city.

The police are coordinating with the disaster management teams to address the flooding and ensure public safety. However, with more rain expected in the coming hours, the situation remains critical.
