Five leopards spotted on hills in central India: forest department issues alert, panic among locals
A group of five leopards was seen on the hills in central India’s Chhattisgarh, creating panic among locals. The Forest Department has issued a high alert, urging residents to remain cautious and avoid venturing out after dark.
The incident took place at Dumali village, which is situated near Kanker city in Kanker district on September 16.
Visuals showed five leopards were sitting together on a rocky hill, nestled among large boulders. Their sleek, spotted bodies blended with the rugged terrain, creating a striking and powerful scene of nature.
The sighting caused alarm, especially since wild animal attacks on villagers have occurred in the past. The local Forest Department is closely monitoring the situation and has installed trap cameras to track the movement of the leopards. Forest Officer (DFO) Alok Bajpai confirmed the leopard sighting, though he mentioned that the viral photo circulating on social media is slightly older. A team from the Forest Department is patrolling the area to ensure public safety.
The incident occurred near Dumali village, where a leopard was recently seen along the roadside, captured in photos by passersby. The authorities have warned villagers to stay vigilant, especially in the evenings, as the leopards have been descending from the hills after dark.
