Fishing boat catches fire off coast in southern India; seven fishermen rescued

In a dramatic incident, seven fishermen were rescued after their fishing boat caught fire 28 nautical miles off the southern coast in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.

The incident took place at Mukkam pura in Vizayanagaram district on June 17.

Visuals showed a terrifying blaze was visible on a boat navigating through murky waters, shrouded in thick darkness that obscured the boat itself, leaving only the flickering flames of fire clearly visible. In another clip, rescued fishermen were seen.

According to reports a fishing boat carrying seven crew members caught fire while navigating the waters 28 nautical miles south of Visakhapatnam.

Rescue operations were swiftly launched, and all seven crew members were safely brought back to the shore. The fishermen, identified as Vasupalli Raju (36), Vasupalli Appanna (58), Vasupalli Dasilu (41), Vasupalli Apparao (41), Ganagalla Yerikodu (40), Mylapalli Yerrayya (50), and Ganagalla Poliraju (20), are residents of Mukkam Pura in Vizianagaram district.
