Firing at polling station in northeastern India as Lok Sabha elections kickstart
As the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections began, firing was heard near a polling station in northeastern India’s Manipur.
This incident happened at Thamanpokpi in the Moirang area on April 19.
Visuals showed people panicking at the polling station as gunshots were heard in the background. The gunshots continued for a few seconds in quick succession and people ran here and there in a bid to save their lives. Chaos and panic reigned supreme in the situation as this happened. There was commotion among the voters as the gunshots were heard in the area with several of them running about.
As per a report, polls were conducted in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat and parts of Outer Manipur on Friday, April 19. Although a report states that there weren’t any casualties in the firing, another report states that three people have died, the official confirmation of which is awaited.
