Firefighters rescue goat’s kid trapped in 8-foot pit in southern India

A goat’s kid fell into an 8-foot-deep pit in the backyard of a residence in southern India’s Kerala, prompting a swift rescue by local firefighters led by Station Officer Nidhish.

The incident took place at Chepalak, 16th Division, Vadakancherry Municipality area of Thrissur on November 5.

Visuals showed a member of the rescue team descending into the pit using a ladder, carefully making his way down to reach the trapped goat’s kid. The kid, frightened and wet, waited at the bottom of the 8-foot-deep pit, bleating softly. The rescuer gently lifted the goat’s kid into his arms, ensuring its safety as he began to climb back up the ladder. Reaching the surface, he brought the goat’s kid out into the open, where it shivered slightly but appeared relieved. The kid’s owner, Achamma, stood nearby, visibly moved and thankful, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the team for their compassionate efforts. The rescue team also took a moment to breathe a sigh of relief, grateful for the successful operation.

Nidheesh Tk, Fire Station Officer, informed Newslion that the pit, part of an unused Bhayogas plant, had been left exposed and became a trap for the wandering goat’s kid. Distressed by the kid’s cries and unable to retrieve it herself, the kid’s mother sought help from local authorities. When neighbors could not assist, Achamma contacted the fire force, who dispatched a team led by Station Officer Nidhish Tk from the Wadakkanchery Fire Station. Arriving quickly on the scene, the firefighters assessed the situation and took steps to safely enter the pit. Officer Nidhish personally led the operation, carefully descending into the hole and bringing the frightened goat’s kid back to safety.

The community has praised the swift and compassionate actions of the firefighters and is grateful for the rescue and their attention to the welfare of the animals. Officer Nidhish and his team are being lauded for their bravery and dedication to service.
