Update: Firefighters heroically rescue senior citizen and child from burning building in eastern India
In a courageous rescue operation, firefighters in eastern India’s Odisha, successfully evacuated a senior citizen and a child from the first floor of a residential building engulfed in flames and smoke at the Reserve Police Lines.
The incident took place in Dhenkanal district on July 18.
Visuals showed a rescue team official carrying the child on his shoulders and bringing him down using a ladder.

 The incident occurred at the reserve police lines on the first floor of a G+2 residential building on Tuesday around 16:20 hrs.

Speaking to Newslions Media,  District Fire Officer, Dhenkanal, Odisha Prasanta Kumar Dhal Dhenkanal mentioned the fire service personnel received a fire call and promptly responded. Braving intense fire and smoke, the rescuers quickly pitched an extension ladder to reach the first floor. They safely evacuated a 62-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy from the building.

Firefighters used smoke exhausters and breathing apparatus (BA) sets to search the remaining rooms, ensuring no other casualties were inside. The fire was brought completely under control, and the firefighting operation is ongoing. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

 

The firefighters, displaying exceptional bravery, navigated through intense fire and thick smoke to reach the trapped individuals. Despite the challenging conditions, the rescue team managed to safely evacuate both the senior citizen and the child, ensuring their safety.
