Fire engulfs multistory apartment, claims one life

A fire broke out in a multistory building, leaving one elderly man dead from smoke inhalation and another hospitalized with severe injuries.

The incident took place in a multistory building in Andheri West, a suburb in Western Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, on the night of December 6.

Visuals show one of the building’s top floors engulfed in a blazing fire, with surrounding buildings nearby.

According to reports, the fire broke out in Skypan Apartments, located off Link Road, opposite Laxmi Industrial Estate. Firefighters promptly responded, deploying eight fire engines to bring the blaze under control.

Tragically, an elderly man, identified as Rahul Mishra (75), succumbed to asphyxiation from smoke inhalation. He was declared ‘brought dead’ upon arrival at the hospital. His relative, Raunak Mishra (38), who was also in the flat at the time, sustained severe injuries and was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital for treatment.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the fire was confined to electric wiring, installations, and household articles in one of the flats. Skypan Apartments, where singer Udit Narayan resides, was the site of the tragic incident.
