A train bogie parked in a goods shed yard at a Railway Junction caught fire and was destroyed, sparking panic among railway staff and officials.

The incident took place at Durg Railway Junction in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, central India, on January 11.

Visuals show thick smoke billowing into the sky from the bogie, with GRP personnel, railway officials, and the public present on-site.According to reports, smoke started emanating from an AC 3-tier bogie between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Shortly afterward, large flames engulfed the coach, causing panic among railway staff. A significant number of trains were parked in the outer yard of Durg Railway Station. Upon noticing smoke, railway officials and Government Railway Police (GRP) informed the fire brigade, which promptly arrived at the scene and began efforts to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters broke the glass windows of the coach to facilitate their efforts. GRP in-charge Rajesh Singh confirmed that his team arrived at the site upon receiving the report of flames coming from the AC coach. He added that the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.

NDRF officer Nagendra Singh stated that the AC 3-tier coach, which was an additional coach sent for emergency use, was completely destroyed in the fire. Since the coach was locked, it is unlikely that the fire was started intentionally. Preliminary assessments suggest that a short circuit or battery sparking might be the cause. Two fire brigade vehicles were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control.

Railway staff detached the burning coach to prevent the fire from spreading to other coaches or trains.
