Fire breaks out at hospital in eastern India, patients evacuated amidst chaotic scenes
In a harrowing incident in eastern India’s West Bengal, a fire broke out at a hospital, forcing an urgent evacuation of patients.
The incident took place at ESI Hospital in Sealdah area of Kolkata city on October 18.
Visuals showed fierce flames pouring out of a hospital window as firefighters sprayed water to bring the raging fire under control. The scene was filled with chaos.
According to reports, 10 fire tenders were dispatched to the site, with firefighters battling to control the blaze. The fire, which began in the male surgical ward on the first floor, sent thick smoke billowing through the hospital, causing panic among patients and staff. As the smoke spread, doctors and nurses swiftly guided patients to safety, averting a major disaster.
Officials noted that vital documents and prescriptions were lost in the fire, adding to the aftermath. Several families and hospital staff were left in shock as they surveyed the damage to the hospital.
