A fire erupted in the old emergency building of Safdarjung Hospital, one of the largest government hospitals in northern India’s Delhi.

The incident took place in South West Delhi district on June 25.

Visuals showed massive black smoke coming out and engulfing the entire area making visibility nil and people rushing here and there due to panic state.

According to reports, the fire broke out in a store room, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). No injuries have been reported.

A nurse, who was trapped on the third floor, was safely rescued by firefighters after they broke a window to reach her. The DFS received the first call about the fire at approximately 10:40 AM. In response, seven fire tenders were dispatched to the site.

The fire, reportedly caused by a short circuit on the ground floor, resulted in heavy smoke, leading to the temporary entrapment of some nursing staff. Dr. Ayush, a hospital doctor on duty at the time, praised the quick actions of both the police and firefighters. “The police station is close to Safdarjung Hospital, and officers arrived promptly, coordinating effectively with the fire service,” he stated.

Manoj Kumar Sharma, DFS Divisional Officer for South Delhi, confirmed that eleven fire tenders, including specialized fire bowsers, were ultimately involved in controlling the blaze. He assured the public that the situation is now under control, and a police investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
