Festival tradition turns tragic after bull charges at locals
A traditional festival ritual turned into tragic, when a bull charged at three men, injuring two people seriously.
The incident occurred in Hosahalli of Mandya district, Karnataka, on January 15.
The visual shows a bull jumping over a blazing fire. After crossing the fire, the bull became uncontrollable and charged at onlookers, knocking them to the ground. One of the victims of the irate was left unconscious.
According to reports, this happened during the Kichchu Haisodu ritual, where cattle are made to jump over a burning fire as part of the festival’s customs. Two of the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Kichchu Haisodu ritual is a long-standing tradition in Karnataka during Makar Sankranti. It involves bulls followed by other livestock such as cows, buffaloes, and sheep walking over the remaining embers. While the ritual is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs, concerns over animal welfare and safety have been raised in the past.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Residents have called for stricter safety measures to prevent such mishaps in the future.
