Father with children falls into 10-foot sewer chamber; quick-thinking passers-by come to immediate rescue

A biker and his two children fell into a 10-foot-deep sewer chamber and were immediately rescued by the locals.

The incident took place in Dhandari, Ludhiana district in Punjab, northern India on November 27.

Visuals show the father riding a motorbike with his two children seated behind him when he lost control and fell into a 10-foot sewer chamber. Passers-by quickly rushed to their aid, bringing a ladder to help the children out first, followed by their father.

According to reports, the incident has sparked widespread outrage among locals, who have criticised the council for its negligence in maintaining safety at construction sites. Videos of the accident have circulated widely on social media, further amplifying public anger. Residents have expressed concerns over the lack of proper barricades around the manhole, pointing out that the incident could have easily turned fatal.

In response, the council’s operation and maintenance (O&M) department has issued notices to the contractor responsible for the project. If the contractor’s explanation is found unsatisfactory, further action will be taken. Senior officials have also directed all departments within the council to strictly enforce safety measures at project sites to prevent similar incidents.
