Farmers clash over fertilizer distribution in central India, police intervene as chaos erupts

A clash among farmers over the distribution of fertilizer erupted in central India’s Madhya Pradesh, leading to physical fights and chaos, with police eventually stepping in to restore order.

The incident took place at Rahatgarh a town in the Sagar district on October 28.

Visuals showed amidst the chaos, farmers were engaged in a fierce brawl, wildly throwing punches and kicks at one another like they were caught in a frenzy. The scene was chaotic, with people scattering in all directions, trying to evade the scuffles. Some were shouting in anger, while others attempted to pull their fellow farmers apart.

Police were alerted and arrived on the scene to defuse the situation, organizing a systematic distribution process using tokens to ensure fair distribution of the fertilizer stock. Rajendra Shakya, an official at the center, reported that 70 tons of fertilizer had arrived, with 30 tons allocated to a committee and the remaining 40 tons to be distributed among the farmers. Despite attempts at orderly distribution, the scarcity has left farmers frustrated and desperate, fueling more frequent incidents of unrest.

This recent clash highlights a growing dissatisfaction among farmers who feel the pinch of the ongoing fertilizer shortage, an issue that has now led to significant public disturbances.
