In a dramatic rescue operation in southern India’s Kerala, four members of a family from Mysore, Karnataka, were saved after being stranded on a rock in the middle of the swollen Chittur River.

The incident occurred at Alankadavu Chittur in Palakkad district on July 16.

Visuals showed amid roaring waters, the fire brigade heroically navigated the treacherous current, securing a lifeline to the stranded family. The rescuers, battling the fierce river, connected the rope to the shore, inching the family to safety.

The family, including a 70 Year-old man, a 65 year-old woman, and their children aged 35 and 19, had entered the river for bathing when the water level suddenly rose due to heavy rainfall in the region and the release of water from the Aliyar Dam. They were trapped nearly 100 meters from the shore.

Speaking to Newslions Media, Fire force personnel, led by Assistant Station Officer G. Madhu mentioned how quickly they responded to the emergency. Demonstrating bravery and skill, they carefully reached the family by connecting a rope to the riverbank and successfully rescued all four members.

The quick actions of the rescue team have been widely praised, highlighting the dangers posed by sudden changes in water levels during the monsoon season in India.
