Fake call center busted by police, 76 detained including nine women
A police operation has led to the bust of a fake call center, resulting in the detention of 76 individuals, including nine women.
The incident took place in Sector 63 of Noida city in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh in northern India on December 13.
Visuals show the arrested individuals, their faces covered, under police custody, with women among those standing in the front row. During the raid, police also seized laptops, mobile phones, routers, and specialized software used in the scam.
Speaking to Newslions, Shakti Mohan Awasthi, Central Noida DCP, confirmed that the investigation was ongoing to uncover further details. Police had recovered 70 laptops, phones, routers, and specialized software used in the fraud, and were coordinating with the US Embassy and other authorities for further investigation. Among those arrested were four directors and 72 employees, who had been operating the fraudulent scheme for about six weeks. The call center allegedly targeted US citizens by infecting their laptops with malware and luring them into deceptive loan schemes. The suspects were said to have used Hawala agents to convert their illicit gains into cash, with the police identifying 10-12 such agents so far.
