Extremists destroy lawyer’s chambers in Bangladesh, leaving behind nothing but wreckage

Hindu advocate Reagan Acharya, representing Chinmay Krishna Das in a high-profile sedition case, was allegedly targeted by extremists while seeking a bail hearing for his client. The attackers reportedly ransacked and looted Acharya’s chambers, leaving them in complete ruin.

The incident took place in Chattogram court premises in Bangladesh on December 3.
Visuals show the chamber completely destroyed, its infrastructure vandalised, and papers with documents scattered across the floor. The property’s glass has been broken and scattered as well, presenting a scene of utter devastation.

According to reports, the violent incident has sparked outrage, drawing attention to the increasing insecurity faced by Hindu minorities and their advocates in Bangladesh. Advocate Acharya, who had been vocal in his defence of Das, was reportedly attacked by Islamist extremists who opposed his support for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

Eyewitnesses claim that a group of men stormed Acharya’s chambers after the court hearing, ransacking the office and damaging furniture and important case files. The attackers also looted valuables, leaving the chambers in utter disarray.

Acharya was rushed to a local hospital following the attack, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries. The incident has been widely condemned by human rights organisations and the legal community, both within Bangladesh and internationally.
