Seven exotic animals, six monkeys and a wallaby, were rescued from a man, who was arrested by forest officials in northeastern India’s Assam.

The incident took place in Hajo of Kamrup district on April 27.

Speaking to Newslions, Sangeeta Rani Sinha, the Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Hajo Northern Range, under North Kamrup Division, said a 41-year-old man was arrested.

“We have nabbed Rahul Naresh Bafna, a resident of Pune in connection with the smuggling case. He was produced at the court on April 28 and would remain under our custody till April 30.”

The officials said that the locals were alerted after a monkey sneaked out.

The man was nabbed and five monkeys and one wallaby were recovered from him. Later, on April 29, the missing monkey was rescued.

“The man is a middleman with connections in Hyderabad,” the RFO said, adding a probe is on to nab the rest.
