Elephants venture into populated street in northern India, locals flee in panic

In a dramatic encounter in northern India’s Uttarakhand, elephants once again ventured into populated areas late in the evening, sending residents into a panic as they scrambled to safety.

The incident took place in the Jagjeetpur area of Haridwar district on October 13.

Visuals showed the bustling market street filled with evening shoppers when an elephant suddenly entered, causing locals to flee in fear of the towering creature. People were seen running in different directions, desperately avoiding the threat posed by the wandering elephant, which casually strolled through the streets, seemingly unaware of the panic it had created.

According to reports, the elephants did not harm anyone and eventually made their way back to the forest. This area, now a residential zone, used to be an old elephant corridor, and despite urbanization, the elephants continue to use it out of habit, leading to such incidents. Locals expressed concern, stating that elephant sightings have become more frequent, although major disasters have been averted so far.
