Elephant goes on rampage, charges at vehicle – passengers narrowly escape
A family of seven narrowly escaped harm after a wild elephant attacked their car on Anamala Road.
This incident happened on the Anamala road, Thrissur district of Kerala, Southern India on December 3.
The visuals show a dramatic scene where a wild elephant chases two cars. The car behind quickly reverses and escapes, while the one in front gets stuck on the roadside. The elephant approaches aggressively, striking the car’s front with its trunk. The trapped family waits tensely as the elephant looms before finally retreating, leaving them unharmed.
Speaking to Newslions, Laksmi, Divisional Forest Officer, Vazhachal, Kerala said, the family, natives of Tirupur, was traveling along a 42-kilometer stretch of the state highway that runs through a forest reserve. During the elephant attack, the car’s side mirror was damaged, and there were only minor damages to the vehicle, but all passengers remained unharmed. After the incident, the family informed authorities at the exit checkpost. They explained that the elephant backed away when a lorry approached from the opposite direction, which helped the family escape.
She also said that the reserve forest is facing a water shortage, prompting elephants to venture outside in search of water. To ensure safety, the check post gates are closed at 6 PM, prohibiting vehicles from traveling on the road at night. The forest officials emphasized that this precaution is crucial to prevent such encounters and protect both wildlife and travelers.
