Forest and fire department officials of southern India’s Tamil Nadu have sprung into action to rescue a baby elephant that fell into a 30-foot well.

The incident took place at Kurichi Nagar near Kolapalli in Nilgiri district on May 29.

Visuals showed in a well, a baby elephant has fallen. Teams from the fire department and the police are trying to rescue it using a JCB machine.

Reports from locals indicate that the calf inadvertently stumbled into the well, prompting swift response from the concerned authorities. Upon receiving the alert, teams from the Tamil Nadu Forest and Fire Department quickly mobilized manpower and machinery to initiate the rescue operation.

Efforts to extricate the stranded elephant calf are ongoing, with officials employing heavy machinery such as JCBs and other mechanisms to carefully lift the animal to safety. The delicate operation underscores the challenges faced by wildlife in areas where human habitation and natural habitats intersect.

Instances of wild elephants straying into human settlements in search of food and water have been increasingly common, often leading to unfortunate accidents like electrocutions or falls into water bodies.
