Electric shock claims buffalo’s life amidst post-rain flooding in northern India

A buffalo died from an electric shock due to waterlogging on the main road in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh following heavy rainfall. Several pedestrians were also affected by the current. Despite local complaints, electricity authorities failed to address the issue in a timely manner, leading to protests from residents.

The incident took place at the main road of Baraut, which is a town in the Badaun district and the video went viral on August 12.

Visuals showed two buffalo crossing the road when one of them encountered an electric shock from waterlogging. Simultaneously, a nearby woman experienced a mild electric shock. The scene quickly became chaotic, with bystanders panicking as the buffalo collapsed and the woman looked distressed.

In Baraut, a tragic incident occurred after recent rains led to significant waterlogging on the main road. The flood water became electrified, resulting in the death of a buffalo and affecting several people who were passing by. The buffalo, being led to a field by a local named Qasim, came into contact with the electrified water, causing its immediate death.

Local residents were quick to notify the electricity department of the dangerous situation, but their pleas went unanswered. The lack of response led to a protest by the community, who expressed their frustration over the authorities’ negligence. For over an hour, the dead buffalo lay on the road as no official came to address the situation.

Residents have previously complained about similar issues, warning that waterlogging often causes electric shocks. Their concerns have yet to result in any preventive measures, leaving them anxious about the potential for a more severe accident in the future.
