Dusty surprise as multi-storey building turns into debris
A multi-storey building in the main market collapsed, which had been declared unsafe and evacuated by the authorities. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The incident occurred in Sector 17 of Chandigarh, Punjab, on January 6.

The visual shows the building standing as people move about on the road normally, with the traffic signal displaying a green light. Suddenly, the building on the opposite side of the road collapses, turning into a cloud of dust. The debris obscures visibility, causing an autorickshaw parked nearby to disappear from view, while panicked pedestrians scatter in all directions.

According to the reports, three pillars of Hotel Mehfil, which had been closed for several years, developed cracks a week earlier during renovation work. Acting on this information, the Chandigarh administration evacuated the building and, as a precaution, police blocked the road in front of it.

Sanjeev Rana, who owns a studio near the site, stated, “When the cracks appeared last week, even the neighboring buildings shook.”

Police were informed immediately after the building collapsed at approximately 7:15 AM.
