Drunken man falls into dry well in northern India, rescued by locals, fire brigade
A 32-year-old man from northern India’s Uttar Pradesh fell into a dry well near a temple while intoxicated. Prompt action by locals, police, and the fire brigade saved his life, and he is now undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The incident took place near Tameshwar Temple, located in the Sadar Kotwali area of Fatehpur district on November 18.
Visuals showed the firefighter team descending into the dry well using sturdy ropes, carefully navigating the narrow space. After securing the injured man, they skillfully pulled him to safety. He appeared semi-conscious, with visible injuries, as they gently laid him on a stretcher, ensuring his immediate transfer to medical care.
According to reports the 32-year-old laborer consumed alcohol and was wandering in a state of inebriation when the accident occurred. His cries for help alerted nearby locals, who immediately informed the police. Responding swiftly, the police arrived at the scene and called in the fire brigade. A rescue operation was launched under the guidance of District Fire Officer Umesh Gautam. A fireman was lowered into the well using a rope, and after rigorous efforts, the injured man was brought out safely.
Sartaj, who suffered severe head injuries, was rushed to the district hospital for treatment. During preliminary questioning, he revealed that he had been distressed due to family problems and turned to alcohol, leading to the mishap.
District Fire Officer Gautam confirmed that they received the alert at around 4 PM and acted swiftly to save the man’s life. The incident underscores the dangers of alcohol and its impact on mental and physical well-being. Authorities have also informed the man’s family about the incident.
The event serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of substance abuse and highlights the importance of seeking healthier ways to address personal and family challenges.
