Drunk driver arrested for stunt driving in western India, collides with parked vehicles
A 26-year-old man, identified as Suraj Jhaman Saw, was arrested in western India’s Maharashtra for driving under the influence of alcohol and performing dangerous stunts, resulting in a collision with parked vehicles.
The incident took place on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, near the Dragon Flyover in Andheri East area of Mumbai on July 30th.
Visuals showed a cab driver was seen hanging out of his car, gripping the window while spinning the steering wheel from outside. The vehicle sped dangerously as he performed stunts, with the car swerving erratically. At various points, the driver struggled to maintain control, causing the car’s balance to wobble. Eventually, after traveling a short distance, the car came to a halt.
On the morning of July 30th, Suraj Jhaman Saw, a 26-year-old resident of Virar, was apprehended by Mumbai police for driving a car while heavily intoxicated. The incident took place around 12:30 AM on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, near the Dragon Flyover.
Saw, who is known to drive tourist vehicles, was recorded performing dangerous stunts by exiting the driver’s seat and driving the car while hanging from the gate. His reckless behavior caused the vehicle to veer uncontrollably, eventually crashing into parked cars along the roadside. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though the property damage was significant.
The police intervened promptly, arresting Saw and conducting a medical examination at Cooper Hospital, which confirmed his intoxicated state. This case adds to the troubling trend of drunk driving incidents in Mumbai, following similar high-profile accidents involving luxury vehicles.
Authorities have filed charges against Saw and are continuing their investigation into the incident. The video footage of the stunt driving has sparked further concerns about road safety and the need for stringent enforcement of traffic laws.
