Drugs worth millions seized by police in northeastern India

Heroin, valued at Rs 8.5 crore (USD 10,18,485.47) was seized by the police in northeastern India’s Assam.
This happened when the cops intercepted a vehicle that had come from the Dholaikhal area, situated near the Dholaikhal Border Outpost in the Cachar district on June 6.
Visuals showed the officials of a Carchar Police seize the drugs during a special operation. Footages show how the police apprehended a suspected drug peddler in possession of 139 cases of soap containing heroin.
According to the reports, Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, stated, “Cachar police carried out a special operation based on secret information along the Assam-Mizoram border at Dholaikhal area near Dholaikhal Border Outpost under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station on Thursday. The team apprehended Abdul Ahat Laskar (33 years old). During a thorough search, the police team recovered 139 cases of soap containing heroin from his possession. The recovered articles, weighing about 1.7 kilograms, were subsequently seized. The estimated value of the contraband items in the black market is approximately Rs 8.5 crores (USD 10,18,485.47).”
