Doctors extract bottle gourd from patient’s rectal cavity in central India

A peculiar incident emerged in central India’s Madhya Pradesh, where a medical team successfully saved a 60-year-old patient by surgically removing a gourd lodged inside his stomach.

The event occurred in Khajuraho of Chhatarpur district on July 20.


Visuals showed the removal of a bottle of gourd from the patient’s rectum, with doctors handling the extraction with utmost care and safety precautions. In another set of visuals, the doctors were seen explaining the surgery and detailing the procedure as the bottle gourd was carefully extracted and fully removed.Reports indicated that the patient was experiencing severe abdominal pain. Upon examination, doctors found a bottle gourd in the patient’s rectum, which had caused internal ruptures. The patient remained in critical condition. The doctors managed to extract the one and a half feet long gourd.Dr. Nandkishore Jatav stated that the patient had refused to explain how the gourd ended up inside his body. The doctors suspected that the patient might have had a mental disorder, as such behavior was often observed in individuals with mental illnesses. The medical team continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
