A wild elephant, in northeastern India’s Assam, was first spotted in Chandrapur Beat of the Guwahati Range on July 20, 2024 and was displaced due to rising water levels in the Brahmaputra River.
The incident took place in Kalipur area of Guwahati city around 5 days ago and the rescue was completed on August 5.
Visuals showed how the elephant was first discovered and then given sedatives by experts. The distressed elephant was then with the help of ropes and machines transported to a truck to rescue by the forest rangers and rescue team members. After a lot of effort, the elephant was finally left free in his natural habitat.
Speaking to Newslions Media, Forest Range Officer of Guwahati, Mr. Pranjal Baruah mentioned how the elephant had journeyed through various areas, including Chapori, Ramsing Chapori, and Nilachal Hills, before being spotted in the Bongsi Bagan area of Kamakhya on July 26, where it caused minor damage before retreating into the jungle.
