Devastating flash flood hits northern India: vehicles, structures destroyed, several missing

A severe flash flood hit northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir that was triggered by a cloudburst resulting in severe damage to life and property in the region.

The incident took place at Rajgarh tehsil in the Ramban district on August 26.

Visuals showed the intense flooding, showing torrents of water engulfing the area and causing widespread destruction. The floods ravaged infrastructure, with roads breaking apart and structures being submerged. Distressed locals watched from a distance, stranded and shocked by the sudden calamity.

According to reports, a mother and her two children are feared missing in the flash flood. The cloudburst also destroyed a school building, the Government Middle School Gadgram, and a water mill in the Kumait area. Four vehicles were reported washed away by the deluge. However, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained unaffected. The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban confirmed that rescue teams are on-site, and the district administration is mobilizing all available resources.
