Devastating fire engulfs remote area in northern India, multiple houses destroyed
A massive fire swept through the far-flung area in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir, leaving destruction in its wake as it ravaged homes and a mosque.
The incident took place in the Mulwarwan village of Kishtwar district on October 14.
Visuals showed towering flames engulfing houses as smoke filled the sky. Despite efforts by locals to control the blaze, the fire continued to spread, consuming around 40 homes and the Jamia Masjid. With limited resources, the community watched helplessly as more houses were at risk of being consumed by the growing inferno.
According to reports, over 35 houses and a mosque were destroyed in a massive fire. “A devastating blaze broke out in the village, rapidly engulfing more than 35 homes,” said a senior police officer, adding that police teams had been dispatched to the site.
Kishtwar Deputy Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shavan confirmed, “Firefighting operations are underway, and fortunately, there are no casualties.”
Shavan also stated that the district administration has started relief efforts for the affected families. “Government resources, including firefighters, have been mobilized, and I am personally overseeing the situation. We are making immediate arrangements for tents, clothing, and rations,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. “While the exact cause is yet to be determined, villagers in remote hilly areas often use charcoal in earthen pots to heat their homes,” he added.
