Deadly fire destroys EV showroom in southern India, battery explosions fuel blaze
A major fire broke out in an electric two-wheeler showroom in southern India’s Karnataka, prompting swift action from firefighters.
The incident occurred at My EV Store in the Rajajinagar area of Bengaluru, city on November 19.
Visuals showed massive flames engulfing the showroom, leaving it completely destroyed. Thick, black smoke billowed into the air, adding to the panic. Onlookers gathered at a safe distance as police officials urged them to move away to avoid harm. Fire brigade personnel worked tirelessly to control the situation amidst the chaotic scene.According to reports, a 26-year-old woman lost her life in the tragic fire. The victim, identified as Priya, was an accountant at the showroom and sought refuge in a small cabin when the fire erupted. Unable to escape, she succumbed to the flames. Priya, a resident of Okalipuram, had been working at the showroom for three years and was set to celebrate her birthday the following day.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a short circuit, spread rapidly due to exploding batteries inside the showroom. The blaze destroyed over 20 electric vehicles. Six people managed to escape, with one suffering minor burns, while others were treated for breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation.
Bengaluru Fire Department officials revealed that the showroom lacked adequate safety measures, including fire extinguishers. Authorities have registered a case of death due to negligence at Rajajinagar police station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Saidulu Adavath, inspected the site, and further investigations are ongoing.
