Daredevil stunts on highway continue: youth climbs signboard to hoist flag in northern India
In a growing trend of dangerous stunts in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a video of a youth climbing a 10-meter-high highway signboard to hoist a flag has gone viral. The local police are investigating the incident as concerns rise over risky behavior driven by social media fame.
The incident took place on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway near the Jafarganj New Mandi site, located in the Kamrauli area of Amethi district and the video viral on October 10.
Visuals showed a young man performing a dangerous stunt on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway. The youth climbed a 10-meter-high signboard and hoisted a green flag, while the video was being filmed.
While the specific details of the flag remain unclear, it appears that there were three other flags already attached to the signboard. Despite the risks involved, these stunts have become a growing trend in the district, with several individuals performing such acts for viral social media content. Just a few days prior, a similar incident occurred in Amethi, where a youth performed push-ups atop a signboard, a video that also gained significant attention online.
The local authorities have taken note of the latest video. Station Officer (SO) of Kamrauli, Abhinesh Kumar, confirmed that they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate legal action after the investigation is completed. The police believe these stunts are being carried out primarily to create social media reels, which is becoming a serious safety concern.
Amethi residents have expressed both amazement and concern over these daredevil acts. The police have yet to conclude the investigation of the previous push-up stunt, adding to the ongoing issue of public safety as more individuals risk their lives for brief social media fame.
