Cyclone Remal devastates eastern India: severe flooding, widespread damage
Cyclone Remal unleashed its destructive power in eastern India’s West Bengal, causing severe flooding and widespread damage.
The incident took place in South 24 Parganas district on May 26.
Visuals showed numerous trees were uprooted, and electricity poles were damaged, leading to significant property damage and road blockages.
The storm, which hit on Sunday night, brought torrential rains and fierce winds, devastating the region. Many homes, especially those with thatched roofs, were particularly hard-hit by the storm’s strong winds.
The heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging, submerging farmlands and making movement within the district extremely difficult. Power outages were widespread as a safety measure, compounding the difficulties faced by residents. Dramatic images and videos circulating on social media show the extent of the destruction, highlighting the cyclone’s severe impact on the area.

The South 24 Parganas district, known for its rural communities and agricultural activities, is now grappling with the aftermath of the cyclone, as the local authorities work to restore normalcy and provide aid to those affected.
