December 2, 2024
Cyclone Fengal caused widespread devastation near a bus station, with buses being swept away by intense flooding. The cyclone triggered lake overflows and severe flooding, resulting in significant damage across the state.
The incident occurred at the Uthangarai bus station in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, on November 2.
Visuals show vehicles at the bus station being carried away by floodwaters as overflowing lakes submerged nearby roads. Rising water levels in dams have also raised major concerns.
According to reports, Krishnagiri district was among the hardest-hit areas, with Uthangarai receiving a record 50 cm of rainfall, leading to catastrophic floods. In response, authorities have issued safety advisories, urging residents to stay vigilant.
District Collector K.M. Sarayu has established a 24-hour helpline (1077) to assist and coordinate relief efforts. Meanwhile, weather officials warn of continued heavy rains as the storm moves inland, threatening areas like Salem, Dharmapuri, and Bangalore.
