Cyclist struck by bus in northern India, family protests and demands compensation
In northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a man was killed in a road accident involving a state transport bus. Following the incident, the victim’s family staged a protest, demanding compensation for their loss.
The incident took place near City Station in the Wazirganj area of Lucknow city on June 26.
Visuals showed a man riding a bicycle on the road when suddenly, a bus came from behind and hit him. He fell to the ground, and the bus ran over him, crushing him before speeding away. The man’s head was caught under the bus, and he died on the spot. A crowd of onlookers quickly gathered at the scene.
The police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Salman, the younger brother of the deceased, identified the victim as 40-year-old Rizwan. Rizwan, a resident of Daliganj, was employed as a peon at an AC plant office on Campbell Road.
On Wednesday, Rizwan was cycling to work when he was hit by a bus from the Kaiserbagh Depot near City Station, leading to his immediate death on the spot. According to his brother, Rizwan was married four years ago and was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his wife, parents, and two younger brothers.
The grieving family expressed their shock and financial concerns following Rizwan’s death, insisting on strict action against the negligent driver and seeking compensation.
Wazirganj Inspector Dinesh Chandra Mishra stated that the police have registered a case based on the complaint lodged by Rizwan’s father and are actively searching for the accused driver.
