Customs seizes $105,405.41 worth of gold from suspicious passenger in western India

Customs authorities of western India’s Maharashtra have intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai  seized 1088.30 grams of 24k gold, valued at Rs. 78,01,043.

The incident took place at Pune Lohegaon International Airport on June 5.

Visuals showed in the airplane beneath a passenger’s seat, a small piece of gold concealed within a cloth was being extracted by customs officials.

The passenger’s behavior raised suspicion, leading to a thorough search of the aircraft, where the gold was found concealed in a packet of paste under the passenger’s seat.

The passenger was thoroughly searched upon arrival, with nothing objectionable found on their person or in their baggage.

However, their suspicious behavior prompted authorities to question them further, eventually leading to the discovery of the concealed gold. The passenger has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement and any potential accomplices. This seizure highlights the vigilance of customs officials in preventing illegal activities and smuggling attempts at the Pune airport
