Customs seize gold and diamonds from airport, arrest smugglers in major operation in western India

In a significant operation in western India’s Maharashtra, customs authorities have intercepted a substantial quantity of gold and diamonds concealed in ingenious ways, leading to the arrest of several smugglers involved in the illicit trade.

The incident took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and the operation was conducted from April 19 to April 21.

Visuals showed customs officials uncovered a clever smuggling attempt as they meticulously unraveled a packet of noodles, gleaming diamonds clandestinely hidden within.

The team from Mumbai Customs has achieved a significant success at Mumbai Airport by seizing gold worth 44.4 million and diamonds. According to reports, smugglers had concealed the diamonds in a noodle packet, while the gold was found hidden in a passenger’s body. Additionally, another passenger’s bag and concealed undergarments were also intercepted.

According to reports the smugglers had hidden the diamonds in a noodle packet to avoid suspicion, but they were caught during customs inspection. Customs have arrested a total of 4 individuals. In one instance, a foreign national traveling from Colombo to Mumbai was stopped, and upon inspection, 24KT gold bricks and a cut piece were found concealed inside the undergarments, with a total weight of 321 grams.

As per information, 10 individuals arriving from Dubai (02), Abu Dhabi (02), Bahrain (01), Doha (01), Riyadh (01), Muscat (01), Bangkok (01), and Singapore (01) were stopped, and during the search, 6.199 kilograms of gold, worth 40.4 million rupees, was found concealed in their rectums and bags. Four individuals have been arrested in this case.
