Customs seize 1.3 kg gold paste from passenger’s underwear at Delhi airport
by Ekta ChaubeyIn a significant operation by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at the airport in northern India’s Delhi, a passenger arriving from Jeddah via Kuwait was apprehended after crossing the Green Channel. Acting on prior intelligence, Customs officials intercepted the individual exhibiting suspicious behavior.
The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on November 28, 2024.
According to reports, the passenger was escorted to the AIU interrogation room, where further questioning unusually revealed the concealment of gold. The individual admitted to smuggling gold in the form of a chemical paste, hidden in the strip of his underwear. Notably, the passenger was wearing two layers of underwear to facilitate the concealment.
Upon weighing, the substance, including its packing material, was found to be 1,321 grams of yellow metal paste, suspected to be gold. The consignment has been seized, and the case is under investigation to uncover the network behind this smuggling attempt. Authorities have intensified efforts to curb gold smuggling through innovative concealment techniques and have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance at international entry points.
