Customs intercept gold concealed in wheel screw of trolly bag in southern India

A vigilant customs operation successfully thwarted an international smuggling attempt in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place at Tiruchirappalli International Airport on May 2.

Visuals showed Custom officers removing the wheel screws of the trolley bag and finding a small size 24k gold rod.

According to reports in a Customs operation three passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur to Trichy on Air Asia flight AK23 were intercepted by the intelligence officers of the Air Intelligence Unit(AIU). Trichy Airport Customs Officers seized 96 small size 24k gold rods totally weighing 235 gms and valued at Rs 16.17 lakh (USD 19,392.02), which were concealed in the bottom wheels screws of 3 trolly bags carried by three PAX as checked-in luggage. Further investigation is underway into this matter.

The interception highlights the meticulous efforts of Customs officials in identifying and preventing illegal smuggling activities.
