Custom seizes smuggled gold worth $ 378,459 in northern India

Officials seized 5 kg gold bars worth Rs 3.16 crore (USD 378,459.30) brought by two Uzbekistan nationals who arrived from Dubai in northern India’s New Delhi.

The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital city on May 6.

Visuals showed officials removing the gold bars from a red pouch and placing it on the tray.

According to the reports, Delhi Customs said that based on intelligence inputs, on personal and baggage search of the two passengers, five gold bars concealed in a red-colour pouch collectively weighing 5 kg were recovered.

Following the arrest of the accused under the Customs Act of 1962, the officials confiscated the undeclared gold from them. Further investigation into the matter is under progress.
