Custom officials uncover gold hidden inside chocolates at airport
A 22-year-old passenger was detained by customs at the airport for attempting to smuggle gold hidden inside chocolates in their luggage.
The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi in northern India on December 11.
Visuals show officials opening the chocolate wrappers to uncover the gold being smuggled. The chocolates were placed in a blue tray, with each one being unwrapped to reveal the hidden gold.
According to reports, a 22-years-old Indian passenger from Rajasthan, travelling on flight AI 972 from Doha to Delhi on 11.12.2024, attempted to smuggle approximately 240 grams of gold chains concealed within toffee wrappers.
The illegal act was uncovered when vigilant customs officers spotted suspicious images during baggage X-ray screening, leading to the discovery.
