Crocodile captured after 10 days of terror in northern India’s village
by Aditi VermaIn northern India’s Bihar, a seven-foot crocodile that had been causing fear for ten days has been captured by the Forest Department. The reptile was spotted on September 4th after being absent for a few days, leading to heightened anxiety among locals.
The incident took place near Babura Dam and the Babura-Ekouna Road in Bhojpur district on September 4.
Visuals showed in a dramatic scene, a crocodile that had been causing widespread panic for several days was spotted running chaotically along a road. The massive reptile moves erratically, darting back and forth, its powerful tail swishing as it maneuvers through the area. The sight of the crocodile on the road sparked a flurry of activity, with people chasing after it in an attempt to catch it.
For nearly ten days, the residents of Babura village in the Bhojpur district lived in fear as a seven-foot crocodile roamed freely near Babura Dam. The crocodile was first sighted on August 20 near a water-filled pit by the large Maa Durga temple. Although it vanished after August 24, it reappeared in the same pit on August 28, reigniting concerns among the villagers.
On September 4, the crocodile was seen moving around the dam again. A local who spotted the reptile while riding a motorcycle promptly informed the Forest Department. Villagers chased the crocodile briefly until a team from the Forest Department, along with two members from Bagaha VTR, arrived at the scene. After several hours of effort, the team successfully captured the crocodile.
Additionally, a video capturing the crocodile running through the streets, having emerged from floodwaters, went viral on social media. The footage shows the crocodile dashing along Babura-Ekouna Road, which is unusual as crocodiles are rarely seen in the area.
