In a dramatic rescue, a couple in western India’s Gujarat found themselves trapped on the roof of their car as it was swept away by strong river currents in the town of Rajpipla.
The incident took place in Sabarkantha district on September 8.
Visuals showed the couple sitting on the roof of their totally submerged car looking helpless amidst the flood waters. Then the fire rescue team members came with rescue equipment and with a lot of difficulties both the man and the woman equipped with safety harness brought down from the car to reach a safer location.
Speaking to Newslions, Fire inspector Kamal Patel of Himmatnagar Fire Station, Gujarat mentioned the incident happened near the Narmada river after heavy monsoon rains caused flash flooding in the area. The couple was stranded for two hours, clinging to the car’s roof, before local rescue teams were able to save them.
The swift rise in water levels caught the couple off guard, and they were helpless as their car was dragged into the river. Nearby residents quickly alerted the authorities, leading to a successful rescue operation.
Flash floods during monsoon season are common in parts of India, especially Gujarat, where sudden heavy rains can cause rivers to overflow. Fortunately, the couple was unharmed, though they described the experience as harrowing.
