Cook spit on bread in northern India sparks outrage; police detain worker
A cook spitting on “rumali tandoori roti” at a restaurant in northern India’s Uttarakhand has sparked widespread anger. The police have detained the worker, and the restaurant has been temporarily shut down as investigations continue.
The incident took place at a restaurant in the Inamullah Building, located on Gandhi Road in Dehradun and the video went viral on October 9.
Visuals showed a cook spitting on rumali tandoori roti while preparing it in a local restaurant, the cook was filmed repeatedly bringing the roti close to his mouth and spitting on it. The video, captured by a customer seated nearby, quickly went viral online, drawing public outrage.
The viral video reached Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, who immediately ordered an investigation. Following these orders, local police took swift action and detained the worker responsible for the act. The restaurant, which has been serving the community for years, was temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure.
According to the authorities, the worker involved in the incident has been identified as a resident of Sitapur, Bihar. He has reportedly been working at the same establishment for the past 18 years. Dehradun’s city police chief, Chandrabhan Officer, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with further details expected soon.
Public reaction to the incident has been strong, with many calling for stricter hygiene standards and severe penalties for such actions in the food industry.
