Controversy erupts at ISKCON Temple in northern India: president accused of assault

The president of the ISKCON temple, Krishna Kripa Das, is embroiled in a scandal following allegations of attempted rape and harassment, leading to violent clashes between rival factions in northern India’s Bihar.

The incident took place at Iskcon Temple in Patna on October 6.

Visuals showed as the Brahmacharis arrived at the temple to investigate the allegations, and chaos erupted. Kanhaiya Yadav’s goons launched an aggressive attack on them, creating a scene of panic and confusion. The air was thick with tension as several Brahmacharis were injured in the fray. Crowds of people rushed out of the temple, their faces reflecting fear and shock. The once serene atmosphere of the temple transformed into a chaotic battleground, with shouts and commotion echoing through the halls. Devotees and onlookers alike scrambled to escape the turmoil, adding to the frenzy that engulfed the sacred space.

The accusations against Das are not isolated; his son has also faced allegations of sexual assault against minors. Furthermore, claims of financial misconduct have emerged, casting a shadow over his leadership.

In response to the growing unrest, a group of Brahmacharis from the temple sought to investigate the matter. However, they were reportedly attacked by Das’s associates, resulting in several injuries. Eyewitnesses claim that police were reluctant to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident, prompting public outcry for accountability.

Giridhari Das, head of the Bhagalpur ISKCON temple, has publicly accused Krishna Kripa Das of harassing a young girl and assaulting those who brought the allegations to light. He reported that the temple’s higher authorities had been alerted to various instances of embezzlement and mismanagement under Das’s tenure.

Following the clash, police from the Kotwali station were dispatched to the scene to investigate. DSP Law & Order Krishna Murari Prasad has stated that CCTV footage from the temple is being reviewed, and both parties have been questioned. Despite the rising tension, Nand Gopal Das, the chief priest and spokesperson for Patna ISKCON, has denied any altercation, claiming the allegations are unfounded.

The situation continues to unfold as local community members demand justice and reform within the temple administration. This incident not only raises questions about the integrity of ISKCON’s leadership but also highlights the need for greater accountability in religious institutions.
