Container filled with luxury cars catches fire on highway in central India
by Aditi VermaA container transporting luxury cars from Maharashtra to Bihar caught fire in central India’s Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the total destruction of six vehicles worth around Rs. 1.5 crore.
The incident took place near the Puran Khedi Toll Plaza on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway (four-lane) close to the Lukwasa police outpost in Shivpuri district on October 31.
Visuals showed a massive truck carrying multiple cars engulfed in fierce flames, with intense fire rapidly consuming the vehicles inside. Thick plumes of smoke rose as the blazing inferno spread, reducing the cars to ashes. The flames leaped high, flickering with a powerful, uncontrollable force, illuminating the surrounding area with an eerie glow.
The container, carrying six high-value cars, was en route from Nashik, Maharashtra, to Purnia, Bihar. Among the vehicles were four Mahindra Scorpios and two SUVs, all of which were completely destroyed in the fire.
According to the driver, Sawan Khan, who hails from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, he became aware of the fire only after another truck driver signaled him. Despite his immediate attempts to halt the vehicle, the flames had spread uncontrollably. The fire was eventually subdued with the help of one fire brigade and three water tankers, but by then, the container and all six cars were reduced to ashes.
The fire is estimated to have caused a financial loss of about Rs. 1.5 crore. The Lukwasa police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze, which reportedly began inside one of the cars.
