Commuters brave floodwaters amidst torrential rain in southern India
Commuters faced major disruption as roads turned into streams, with heavy rainfall from Cyclone Fengal intensifying the challenges.
The incident took place on the Shiriya Highway in Kasaragod district, Kerala in southern India and the video went viral on December 2.
Visuals showed roads turning into rivers amid torrential rainfall, with commuters struggling to navigate the flooded roads. They moved cautiously, stumbling and driving slowly to avoid accidents as the rain continued to pour.
According to reports, the latest radar images on Monday indicated the possibility of moderate rain in isolated areas of Kasaragod district, along with strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h over the next few hours. The red alert issued by the Central Meteorological Department remains in effect for the district, with extremely heavy rainfall expected. This could result in more than 204.4 mm of rain in just a few hours, posing significant challenges for the region’s residents.
