Cobra rescued from school toilet in central India sparks safety concerns

A potentially dangerous situation was averted in a girls’ school in central India’s Madhya Pradesh when a cobra was discovered inside a toilet seat, having entered through the septic tank’s overflow pipe.

The incident took place in Chicholi, Betul district on July 3.

Visuals showed upon locating the snake trapped inside the toilet seat, Vishal ingeniously freed it by breaking the connecting pipe and coaxing the cobra out with a piece of wood.

According to reports, the cobra’s presence was detected by a teacher who heard hissing sounds upon returning from the toilet. Quickly alerting school staff and students, she secured the area and sought help from Vishal Vishwakarma, a local snake rescuer based in Betul.

Vishal promptly arrived at the school, approximately 35 kilometers away, and commenced the rescue operation. The snake was safely captured without harm.

Authorities emphasized that had the cobra emerged while someone was using the toilet, the situation could have been catastrophic. As a precautionary measure, snake rescuers have advised installing nets on all overflow pipes to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and safety measures in places prone to wildlife intrusion, ensuring the well-being of all occupants.
