Chilling moment sudden flash flood creates panic among tourists in southern India
Tourists panicked after seeing flash floods at Old Courtallam Falls in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.
The incident took place in Courtallam of Tenkasi district on May 14.
Visuals showed the gradual increase in the speed and volume of water from the waterfall, which started flowing through the stairs and onto the road. A group of tourists ran away to avoid being washed away by the unexpected flood.
According to reports, a 17-year-old boy named Ashwin from Tirunelveli was swept away. The fire department and the police are involved in the search for the missing boy.
The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are investigating the area. Tourists are prohibited from bathing in the falls.
“A person from Courtallam Melakaram was swept away in a flash flood in Old Courtallam. The search for the person who went missing in the wild floods is ongoing intensively,” said Tenkasi District Superintendent of Police Suresh Kumar. The Tenkasi district administration has advised the general public not to visit streams and waterfalls in the Western Ghats.
